How to Change AdSense Account: YouTube Buyer's Guide

You can change AdSense account (YouTube allows one switch every 32 days) from the Earn tab in YouTube Studio, and the job takes a few minutes once the channel is in your name. The timing is what buyers get wrong. In the 10,000+ channel deals I've handled, the payout arguments I saw after a sale usually traced back to this one setting.

This guide covers the steps from a buyer's side: where the setting lives, when to touch it during a deal, what happens to money already earned, and how the country on your AdSense account interacts with the channel's country.

TL;DR

A purchased channel keeps its monetization, but ad money goes to whichever AdSense for YouTube account is linked. Switch it in YouTube Studio under Earn right after ownership transfers, and ask the seller first when the link last changed, because YouTube allows one change per 32 days. Payouts start once your balance reaches 100 USD.

Change AdSense Account: YouTube Studio Steps

Only the channel owner can swap the payout account, and YouTube limits the swap to once in any 32-day period. The setting sits in YouTube Studio under Earn, in the block that shows the linked AdSense for YouTube account. Managers and editors can see parts of the channel, but the change option is there for the owner alone.

Here is how to change AdSense account on YouTube once the channel is yours:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer with the Google account that now owns the channel.
  2. Open Earn in the left menu and find the AdSense for YouTube block.
  3. Click Change and confirm your identity when Google asks for your password or a 2-step code.
  4. Pick the Google account that holds your approved AdSense for YouTube account, or start a new one if you have none.
  5. Accept the association and wait for the redirect back to YouTube Studio.
  6. Check that Earn now shows your own account, then complete tax and payment details in AdSense.

A new AdSense for YouTube account needs Google's approval before it is active, and that can take days, so create yours before the deal closes. Google's AdSense rules allow 1 account per payee. If you already have an approved one, reuse it: a single account can be linked to several channels.

The channel itself does not re-apply to the Partner Program. Monetization stays with the channel, which is why monetized YouTube channels for sale ask about 3× the price of comparable non-monetized ones in our pricing data.

The revenue split does not change either. Long-form videos keep the 55% share and Shorts the 45% share that YouTube sets out in its Partner Program overview. You only choose where that share lands.

When Should a Buyer Switch AdSense During the Deal?

Switch the AdSense link after you become the channel's owner and before escrow releases the seller's money, never earlier. Until that moment the seller is the only person who can change it, and after it every day of delay sends the channel's ad revenue to an account you do not control.

The check I add to every deal: ask the seller for the date the AdSense link last changed, with a screenshot of the Earn tab. If the seller re-linked 10 days ago, you are locked out for the next 22 days, and the channel keeps paying the seller during that time. Fewer than half of listings (around 43%) disclose any earnings figure, so this screenshot often doubles as your first look at real revenue.

The table shows who controls the AdSense link at each stage of a purchase and what the buyer does.

On Hypertube the payment sits in a secure escrow system run by an agent while these steps happen, so you can verify the new link before the seller is paid. In a private deal there is no such window, and you should agree in writing who keeps the earnings of the handover month.

One mistake costs a full month: linking the wrong Google account in a hurry. The 32-day limit applies to you as well, so a wrong click means the channel pays into the wrong place until the window reopens. Decide which AdSense account you will use before transfer day, and log in to it once to make sure it is not suspended or waiting on verification.

What Happens to Payouts While the Accounts Change?

Money follows the linked account, so earnings finalized before the switch stay in the seller's AdSense balance and earnings after it build up in yours. Nothing moves between the 2 accounts. Google's AdSense rules pay out once a balance reaches 100 USD, so a small channel may wait more than one month for its first payment.

The handover month is the grey zone. YouTube finalizes each month's earnings in the following month, and I have not found a rule simple enough to promise how a mid-month switch is split. Treat it as a deal term. Either the seller keeps that month and the price reflects it, or the switch happens in the first days of a month so the question never comes up.

Expect modest numbers at the low end. In our pricing data, budget channels that report earnings show a median of about 70 USD per month at an RPM near 1 USD, so the 100 USD threshold is reached in the second month. Premium channels are priced at about 18× monthly profit, which makes every missed month a visible share of what you paid.

Before the first payment Google also asks for tax information and identity or address verification on a new account. Complete them the day you link, because payments are held until they are done. The full calendar is in my guide on how and when YouTubers get paid.

The scale explains why the setting deserves care. According to YouTube's CEO, the platform paid creators 100 billion USD over 4 years, and ad revenue reaches a creator only through a linked payout account.

YouTube AdSense Countries: Can Yours Differ From the Channel's?

Yes. The country of residence in a channel's settings and the payee country on an AdSense account are 2 separate fields, and they do not have to match. Buyers in our market cross borders constantly: sellers span more than 50 countries, and the United States, the largest single source, supplies only about 23% of listings.

What you cannot do is edit the AdSense side. Under Google's AdSense rules the payee country is fixed at sign-up, so a YouTube AdSense country change means closing the old account and opening a new one in the new country, then linking it to the channel. That re-link uses your one change in 32 days.

The channel side is editable. If you searched for how to change country in YouTube AdSense and landed in YouTube Studio, the field you found under Settings, Channel, Basic info is the channel's country of residence. YouTube uses it for Partner Program eligibility, and changing it does not move your payee country.

Neither field sets what you earn. YouTube AdSense rates by country depend on where the viewers are, and the owner's bank location plays no part. In our data India is the most common top-audience country among listed channels, which is a large part of why budget channels sit near an RPM of 1 USD.

Check the audience geography in the channel's analytics before you buy. My guide to buying a YouTube channel without AdSense covers the rest of the monetization check.

What If AdSense Is Not Available in Your Country?

Then the channel can still earn, but you need another route for the money. The Partner Program and AdSense for YouTube each cover a set list of countries, and a buyer outside it cannot link a payout account at all, however healthy the channel's 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subscribers look.

The YouTube AdSense supported countries list (2026 version) lives in YouTube Help and changes without much notice, so I will not copy it here. Check it for your own country before you pay for a monetized channel. Monetization you cannot collect is worth the non-monetized price, roughly a third as much in our data.

Buyers in unsupported countries usually pick one of 3 routes:

  • Join a multi-channel network that collects the channel's revenue and pays you by a method available where you live.
  • Run the channel through a company or partner registered in a supported country, with the AdSense account in that entity's name.
  • Earn outside ads through sponsorships and affiliate links, which never touch AdSense.

Hypertube runs the first route itself: you can join the multi-channel network and be paid through methods such as Payoneer or crypto. The second route needs a real legal entity and its tax paperwork. An account opened in a friend's name is a different thing, and it breaks the 1-account-per-payee rule.

Whichever route you choose, settle it before the deal closes. The 55% long-form share and the 45% Shorts share only reach you through a connected payout route, and each week without one is revenue you paid for and did not collect.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to change AdSense account on YouTube after buying a channel?
To change AdSense account (YouTube Studio only), sign in as the channel owner, open Earn, click Change in the AdSense for YouTube block and select your approved account. Do it the day ownership transfers. YouTube allows one change in a 32-day period, so confirm beforehand that the seller has not changed the link recently.
How to change AdSense country for YouTube?
You cannot edit the country on an existing AdSense account. Google fixes the payee country at sign-up, so the only path is to close that account, open a new one in your current country and link the new account to the channel in YouTube Studio. Plan the timing, since linking counts toward the 32-day limit.
Can your YouTube be different from your AdSense country?
Yes, the channel's country of residence and the AdSense payee country are separate settings, and nothing forces them to match. Google still expects each one to be true: the channel's country is where you live, and the AdSense country is where you are registered to be paid and taxed. Audience location, a third thing entirely, is what drives how much the channel earns.
How long after the switch will I get my first YouTube payment?
Your first payment arrives after your AdSense for YouTube balance reaches 100 USD and your tax and verification steps are complete. For a channel earning around 70 USD a month, the median for budget channels in our data, that means the second month of earnings.
Can the seller keep their AdSense linked for a while after the sale?
Technically yes, since the link stays until the owner changes it, but I advise against it. Every day the old link stays, the channel's revenue goes to the seller's balance and you depend on them to forward it. If the 32-day limit forces a delay, write the repayment amount and date into the deal terms.
